Benjamin Mendy glares at Riyad Mahrez as he makes accidental Fernandinho admission

Riyad Mahrez appears to have accidentally let slip that Fernandinho will depart Manchester City at the end of the season.

Mahrez was playing a quick-fire game with Benjamin Mendy as part of a Christmas Present Wrapping Competition on Sky Sports' YouTube channel.

The host asked: "Who announced in the summer that this would be their final season at City?"

Quick as a flash, Mahrez buzzed in and confidently answered: "David and Fernandinho."

The flustered host then awkwardly tried to move on from the admission by saying: "Yep, Silva."

At that point the camera moved into a close-up of Mendy's face which screamed "you shouldn't have said that" as his eyes aimed daggers at his teammate.

Brazilian Fernandinho is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season.

The 34-year-old has been at City since 2013, when he moved from Shakhtar Donetsk for £34million.

During his time at City he has played 292 games and lifted the Premier League three times.

Fernandinho said about his future: "I always say I’ll play until my mind will allow me to play.

"When I feel happy and motivated to play every day this is important. To train happy and fresh everyday so until I don’t feel like this, I will play, but I don’t want to say until 37, 38...40; we shall see."

Pep Guardiola added: "I think at the end of the season we are going to decide on the situation.

"The players who finished their contracts, the players with full contracts, what we have to do is what we believe is the best for the club and organisation for next season."

Silva announced in June that he would be bringing a glittering 10 years at City to an end at the finale to this campaign.

"This is the last one,” he said. “Ten years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me. Initially, City were talking about two [more] years.

“It completes the cycle. It’s a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years – that’s it.”
