BENGALURU: BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta has instructed the authorities to make all necessary preparations in their respective zones for vaccination of children in the age group of 15 to 18 starting January 3.
While reviewing Covidcontrol measures in Bengaluru during a virtual meeting, the chief commissioner said that a zone-wise list of private and government schools and colleges has to be prepared, and staff should be deputed to all schools and colleges for vaccinating the targeted children.
Vaccine should be administered to out-of-school children also in the age group of 15 to 18 in BBMP limits — kids in slum and industrial areas should be identified and vaccinated in collaboration with NGOs. In addition, preparations should be made to administer booster dose to healthcare and frontline workers and those over 60 years of age from January 10, he said.
Wherever there are more cases of Covid in the city, precautionary measures should be taken immediately. “Take steps to control Covid infection at the root by contact tracing. Health officials will meet resident welfare associations in the respective wards to take care of areas where Covid incidence is high and take necessary measures to control its spread,” Gupta said.
He said close to 45,000 citizens are being tested daily in the city and this number should be increased.
In order to enforce the restrictions imposed by the state government in markets, restaurants, bars and other public spaces, the department has to work closely with the police department to take action to control Covid.
Special commissioner, health, Trilok Chandra, said: “About 5 lakh children aged 15-18 in BBMP limits will be given the vaccine from January 3.” He urged the authorities to prepare a zonal action plan, including information on the number of educational institutions, vaccine beneficiaries and places where vaccination takes place.
