Alexis Sanchez set to refuse Man Utd return despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting him back

Manchester United and Alexis Sanchez are at an impasse over the Chilean's future at Old Trafford.

The striker has spent the season on loan at Inter Milan where he has worked with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

Sanchez is keen on a permanent move as he looks to resurrect his career following his failed switch to United.

The 31-year-old joied on a free from Arsenal in 2018 and has two years remaining on his £500,00-a-week deal.

And United are not prepared to sanction his sale as they believe he could still have something to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Sanchez though, according to the Daily Star, no longer sees his future at Old Trafford and has told club bosses that he wants to play his football elsewhere.

The Chilean wants to be appearing regularly and is aware that he may struggle to achieve that at United.

He was one of the few players not to experience an upturn in form following Solskjaer's appointment in December 2018 and is conscious that Jadon Sancho remains a target for the club.

A source said: "Alexis doesn't see the point in going back to Manchester. He's happy where he is. It just didn't work out for him at United and wants the club to accept that he wants to leave."

Inter are prepared to pay £30m for Sanchez provided he is prepared to take a pay cut.

The Italian club's chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has confessed that a deal may not be easy to achieve however.

He said: "It's not easy because he has a two-year contract with Manchester United, so we have to evaluate the situation.

"But it would be a shame if we couldn't reach an agreement, because we want Sanchez today and tomorrow."

Sanchez's arrival at United was met with plenty of optimism after they stole him from under Manchester City's noses.

But he managed just five goals in 45 appearances and looked a shadow of the player who impressed so regularly at Arsenal.
