Adam Collard 'takes back Zara McDermott's luxury Christmas gift' after break-up

Love Island star Adam Collard has reportedly ‘taken back’ ex-girlfriend Zara McDermott’s luxurious Christmas present following their split.

The 23-year-old is thought to have paid for a trip to the Maldives for him and his then-partner before Christmas, but has now reportedly decided to jet off with a friend instead after the pair announced their break-up.

“Adam has had a change of heart and decided to go to the Maldives this week as planned,” an insider told The Sun.

“He spent a lot of money on it as a Christmas present to Zara, but he’s going to take a friend instead.

“Things are still bitter between them, so he thinks it’s best if he’s the one who gets to go away.

“Adam plays up to the cameras that there was nothing wrong in the relationship, but in reality he knows his wrongdoings.”

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Collard and McDermott for comment.

Discussing the split on This Morning earlier today, Collard said that the decision to end the relationship had been “really hard” as no one “had done anything wrong.”

“It’s really hard,” he told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

“It would be easy to get out of a relationship if someone had done anything wrong, but that’s not the case. We’re just not getting on right now and it’s hard.”

He went on to deny rumours of any wrongdoing, telling the presenters: “The stuff that’s coming out in the press, Zara has categorically said ‘Adam has not done anything wrong to me.’ It’s just run its course.”

McDermott, 21, confirmed that she and Collard had broken up earlier this month in an emotional Instagram statement.

“I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways,” she wrote.

“I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him & our time spent together. I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.

“Sometimes in life, you just aren’t enough for someone; no matter what you do for them or how much you try to be.”

The couple announced their break-up shortly after two other Love Island couples, Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson and Josh Denzel and Kaz Crossley, called time on their relationships.

Winners Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer are now the only couple from the 2018 series still together.
