Former Nottingham Forest loan star Darren Huckerby has paid tribute to Michael Dawson, after the experienced defender penned a new City Ground deal at the ripe old age of 36.
Dawson continued his long association with the Reds on Wednesday by agreeing to extend his stay by at least another 12 months, and ex-Red Huckerby offered his congratulations to his old teammate.
Huckerby, who enjoyed a loan spell at Forest in the 2002/2003 season which saw Paul Hart’s young Reds lose in the play-off semi-final at Sheffield United, played alongside a young Dawson just making his way in the game - and saw him suffer the agony of being dismissed in the first leg of the semi-final at the City Ground by Mark Clattenburg.

Now 44, the Nottingham-born ex-striker heralded Dawson’s stellar career, which has seen him captain the Redsalong with Tottenham Hotspur and collect four England caps, as well as captaining the Under-21 side on numerous occasions.
“Can remember him when he was a young pup,” Huckerby wrote on Twitter.
“Great career.”
During his short loan spell on Trentside, Huckerby netted five times in just nine outings for Hart’s side before returning to parent club Manchester City before making a permanent switch to Norwich City.
He now works as an ambassador for the Carrow Road club.
