2019 Ravens draft: Instant analysis of Ravens selecting Jaylon Ferguson in 3rd round

After a long wait, the Baltimore Ravens have made their second selection of 2019 NFL draft by picking up Louisiana Tech defensive end Jaylon Ferguson in the third round with the 85th overall selection.

Think about this. When Baltimore and their all-time sack leader linebacker Terrell Suggs parted ways in the early stages of free agency this offseason, the Ravens were wondering where they would find another pass rusher.

Well, not only did they find a pass rusher by selecting Ferguson, but he is the same player who broke Suggs’ NCAA Division I all-time sack record. That certainly is something.

If Ferguson can be half the player Suggs was at the NFL level, it will certainly be a selection that will go down as a steal for years to come. Baltimore did not panic, despite not having a second round draft pick. It looks like their long wait paid off for them.

At 6-foot-4, 256 pounds, Ferguson has the size and power to not only cause offensive tackles fits, but interior offensive linemen as well with his inside pass rush.

Ferguson wasn’t a player who was expected to last well into the third round. Some mock drafts had him going within the first 40 picks. The fact the Ravens were able to select him 45 selections later is nothing short of amazing.
