MATT Hancock’s fellow contestants on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! have slated the former minister for appearing on the show, saying he "should be at work”.
Hancock sparked fury among Conservative MPs over his stint on the reality show and was stripped of the party whip.
And now he is facing the disapproval of the other contestants because the MP is on the show while Parliament is still sitting.
Former BBC radio host Chris Moyles questioned his priorities, saying “he’s taken a few weeks off his job" and asked: “What about his constituents?”
Moyles later said to the cameras: "I can't help but think 'you should be at work'."
Earlier in the show, Hancock had a heart-to-heart with ITV News presenter Charlene White.
The news host similarly scrutinised Hancock’s intentions.
Answering White’s question as to why he joined the show, Hancock said: “Because there’s, honest truth, because there’s so few ways in which politicians can show that we’re human beings, so I just thought it would be good to do that."
Hancock went on to say he hoped the show would change the way people view him.
He continued: “If I can use this to sort of peel myself back a bit and just be me, it’s better.”
White replied: “But I can imagine it would not have gone down well at all at home? You have to expect that. Because Parliament is still sitting, we’re not in recess, you know …”
Trying to rationalise his leave from Westminster, he said that “we’ve now got sort of stability” but was quickly interrupted by White, saying: “We’ve had stability for all of five minutes, Matt".
He responded: “Rishi’s great, he’ll be fine.”
Hancock was also targeted by the voting public having been chosen to undertake the episode’s challenge in which he was showered with insects.
And the trials aren’t over for the West Suffolk MP, as he’s now set to take on Thursday’s trial dubbed “Tentacles of Terror”.
When Hancock entered the camp, Culture Club frontman Boy George told him: "You’re really going to get it. You’re really going to get it."
