Yankees Hire Sean Casey as Hitting Coach

The Yankees are expected to hire MLB Network analyst Sean Casey as their next hitting coach, the team announced on Monday. According to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the deal is expected to last just through the rest of the 2023 season for the team to assess his work.

New York fired hitting coach Dillon Lawson following its loss to the Cubs on Sunday, as the offense has struggled mightily this year. The Yankees enter the All-Star break ranked among the bottom five in MLB in on-base percentage and the bottom three in batting average.

Casey is a former first baseman who primarily played for the Reds, where he played alongside Yankees manager Aaron Boone for several seasons. In 12 MLB seasons, Casey posted a career .302 batting average with 130 career home runs, making three All-Star games in that span.

After retiring, Casey entered the media and joined MLB Network as an analyst, but he does not have any coaching experience prior to this opportunity.
