Woman 'close to breaking point' gets back on track after ice bath

A woman who was close to breaking point has turned her life around after discovering the power of an ice bath.

Nina Finlay found herself stressed, lost and "unable to breathe" through the pressures of her daily life. With a high pressure job, a lack of direction and a poor lifestyle, she says she was close to breaking point until her friend told her about an unusual method.

After inviting her to a week-long retreat in Spain, hosted by Wim Hof - known as the Iceman - her life was soon changed. She said: "I was in a bad place and often found myself overwhelmed and unable to breathe.

"Discovering Wim Hof changed my life and the practise brought me to floods of tears, releasing lots of trauma. It’s like it reset me and changed my whole outlook and quality of life."

Wim Hof, also known as The Iceman, is a Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete who has pioneered the technique that fuses breathing, cold water therapy and a mental philosophy. Backed by science, the method has increased in popularity.

From her home studio in Aigburth, Nina has become the region's only Wim Hof instructor and offers an initial introduction course for an intimate group of people. She teaches the small group the science before taking them through a deep, guided breathwork session and an ice bath session.

Nina said: "I’ve helped such a wide range of people from different walks of life, from 86-year-old women to people with conditions such as PTSD, addictions and trauma. The Wim Hof method takes us back to our primal state and can have profound effects both physically and mentally."

She added: "It gave me the tools to implement it into my daily life and I’ve been so much happier and calmer. I rarely get stressed and every aspect of my life has improved. Wim Hof has changed my life and that’s why I decided to become a practitioner, to help as many people as possible through it."

After studying for 18 months and becoming a practitioner, Nina has helped a wide range of people and many have travelled from far and wide to take part in her intimate group courses.

Nina said: "The Wim Hof method can be life-changing and once people understand the techniques and how to use them, they never look back. Physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, it’s a game changer and it feels so good to pass on the magic to others. If anyone wants to find out more before coming on a course, I’m more than happy to chat."
