Who is Milly Alcock? The actress playing Princess Rhaenyra in House of the Dragon

The highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has landed on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV today.

The 10-episode series, which centres around House Targaryen, takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Based on George R.R Martin’s book Fire and Blood, the series encapsulates the story of the Targaryen civil war. The show features a host of new characters including Princess Rhaenyra, played by Milly Alcock. House of the Dragon is Alcock’s first major TV role in an American show. Here’s everything you need to know about the breakout star.

How old is Milly Alcock?

Alcock was born on April 11, 2000, making her 22 years old. She was born and raised in Sydney, Australia along with her two brothers. Alcock attended Sydney’s Newton High School of the Performing Arts but dropped out in her final year to pursue acting in the 2019 Australian drama Upright. “School’s never been for me,” the 22-year-old told The Sydney Morning Herald. “I’ve never been somebody who’s thrived in the school environment.”

What else has Milly Alcock been in?

Alcock got her first taste for TV in 2014 when she made an appearance in Australian TV series Wonderland.

The young star has since gone on to feature in Fighting Season, The Gloaming, and Janet King. The Sydney-born actor received the Rising Star of 2018 award by the Casting Guild of Australia.

Who does Milly Alcock play in House of the Dragon?

Alcock plays the younger version of Princess Rhaenyra, the ice-blonde princess who takes centre stages in the first half of the series. The princess is the firstborn of King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and, just like Daenerys, she is of pure Valyrian blood and is a skilled dragon rider who understands the power that this gives her.

Although she is the king’s only child, her claim to the throne is met with hesitation because of her gender. The princess is seen in a competition with her uncle Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and cousin Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Targaryen) for the Iron Throne.

Alcock’s character is best friends with Lady Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.
