What are the best thrillers on Netflix?

Netflix UK is the host of endlessly watchable material from the good to the bad and all the in-between.

Thrillers are a big genre on the streaming platform, bringing high levels of tension to viewers from slow-burn scripts and storylines. If you are in the mood to work up a slight sweat, some sensation of fear or exploring the unknown, then thrillers can be the best fitted genre.

A mix of physical and mental horrors take place in Netflix's thrillers which will leave viewers with goosebumps and contemplating deep thoughts. Many of these films star a number of renowned actors, such as Jake Gyllenhaal, which means that you may be in for a treat.

What are the best thrillers on Netflix UK?

The Weekend Away (2022)

Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) stars in this girls trip gone wrong thriller from director Kim Farrant. Based on the book by the same name, Meester's character, Beth, is accused of killing her best friend whilst on a girls holiday in Croatia.

She soon sets off to uncover the truth of the incident and painful secrets await the protaganist. Meester's best friend is played by Christina Wolfe.

The Netflix film was released in March 2022.

The Guilty (2021)

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this intense thriller set over a single morning with a call to a 911 dispatch centre. Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) is tasked with saving the caller who appears to be in danger.

But soon it is revealed that not everything is as it seems, and the protagonist must figure out the truth to find a way out. The Guilty was released on Netflix in October 2021.

Uncut Gems (2020)

Josh and Ben Safdie's Netflix thriller Uncut Gems has been met with instant critical acclaim. The film that made a name out of Julia Fox and showed another side of actor Adam Sandler, was released in January 2020.

The Safdie brothers created a crime thriller following Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a charismatic and cheeky New York City jeweller who is always looking to make big money. The plot follows Ratner making a series of risky high-stake bets whilst balancing his business, family life and love interest, whilst outmanoeuvring his adversaries.

Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)

This satirical thriller stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an art gallery owner who comes across an intriguing artist discovered from the past. However, these haunted paintings seem to have a mind of their own which soon sends Los Angeles' contemporary art world into disarray.

The film came to Netflix in February 2019 and also stars Toni Collette. A commentary on art meeting commerce with big money artists and mega-collectors willing to pay large sums for anything can also be taken from the film.
