Warning to anyone who has or uses a hot tub

People who own or regularly use hot tubs are being warned to be aware of the possible health risks.

Since the days of lockdown the popularity of hot tubs has definitely risen, with it now not being out of the ordinary to have one in your own back garden.

And as the UK recently enjoys hot temperatures, heath experts are warning owners to be aware of the steps to avoid potential serious illness.

According to The Health and Safety Executive there are a number of health risks associated with hot tubs regarding the water.

Water that is left and unchecked can cause a range of health conditions, including legionnaires disease a severe lung disease caused by killer bacteria in dirty water.

The Health and Safety Executive specify how hot tub water should be tested and monitored, along with the quality and frequency of water inspections.

John Murphy states that a lot of holiday home owners, who subsequently let out their properties, need to be aware to keep their guests safe.

John, of rural insurance broker Lycetts, said: “All too often, people tend to skip over the small print regarding the potential health hazards.

“Hot tubs are a big attraction for potential holidaymakers, and owners know that by providing them, footfall is likely to increase.”

“However, hot tubs have environmental conditions that could potentially lead to the growth and dispersal of legionella and other infectious agents.”

He added: “For those who offer – or are considering – hot tubs, ensuring all hygiene and safety regulations are adhered to is a must.”
