US Military Vessels Ready To Construct Temporary Pier In Gaza

U.S. military personnel air drop aid parcels over Gaza

US military vessels are currently stationed in the Mediterranean region, ready to commence construction on a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza upon receiving the necessary orders, as confirmed by Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder on Tuesday.

Ryder emphasized that the United States is well-prepared to initiate construction in the near future. The process involves various steps, including ensuring ground security, coordinating with supporting partners, and establishing a timeline for implementation.

The anticipated timeline for the operational readiness of the temporary pier is by the end of April or early May, with the military making significant progress towards meeting this target, as stated by Ryder.

Following extensive diplomatic negotiations, the World Food Programme (WFP) has committed to facilitating the distribution of aid from the pier, marking a crucial development in the relief efforts.

The temporary pier, situated several miles off the Gaza coast, will serve as a hub for both military and civilian vessels. Aid shipments arriving at the pier will be transferred by US military vessels to the causeway, where non-military trucks operated by personnel from non-profit organizations will take charge of the distribution process within Gaza.
