Univision enrolls Shakira for its Copa América efforts and reveals lineup for next year

MIAMI - Shakira, affectionately dubbed 'La reina de los eventos deportivos' (The Queen of Sporting Events), continues to make waves in the music and sports arena. With the approaching Copa América 2024, the Colombian superstar announced that her song "Puntería" will be the official anthem of the event. This revelation came during a surprise appearance on Univision, highlighting her influence on global culture through music.

Shakira emphasized the significant role of music in bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, stating, "This is the most important football event of the year, as this song will be the sound of the summer for fans around the globe. It's the power of our culture and our music."

With its catchy rhythm and lyrics and featuring Cardi B., "Puntería" is set to become the unofficial anthem for football or soccer fans during South America's most prestigious tournament, which kicks off on June 20.

The track is part of her latest album, 'Las mujeres ya no lloran', which features 17 songs. The chorus, "Tú tienes buena puntería, sabes por dónde darme para que quede rendida," is one of the album's most sensual tracks. The video, starring the two artists and Emily in Paris' Lucien Laviscount, has already amassed over 31 million views on YouTube.

Shakira in Copa América

Shakira is no stranger to performing at major sporting events, having previously delivered iconic performances at the FIFA World Cup ceremonies in 2010 and 2014 with hits like "Waka Waka" and "La La." Her presence was also felt at the 2006 Germany World Cup closing ceremony, the 2012 Women's Under-17 World Cup, the NBA All-Star Game in 2010, and the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show in 2020.

The 48th edition of the Copa América, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship overseen by CONMEBOL, is set for 2024. This year, the event will be co-hosted by CONCACAF and held in the United States, marking the second time the U.S. has hosted, following the Copa América Centenario in 2016.

The matches will span from June 20 to July 14, 2024. The victorious team will go on to compete in the 2025 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions against the winner of UEFA Euro 2024. Argentina holds the title of defending champion. The championship match is scheduled for July 14, 2024, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
