UFC 289 play-by-play and live results

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – UFC 289 takes place Saturday and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results.

UFC 289 takes place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

In the main event, women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes (22-5 MMA, 15-2 UFC) puts her 135-pound title on the line against challenger Irene Aldana (14-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC). In the co-feature, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (33-9 MMA, 21-9 UFC) takes on Beneil Dariush (22-4-1 MMA, 16-4-1 UFC) in a No. 1 contenders bout.

Diana Belbita vs. Maria Oliveira

Round 1 – These two are wasting no time, as they’re exchanging big from the very start. Good jabs by Belbita. And a nice one, two for Belbita. Belbita seems to be taking a lead here with volume. Three minutes left. Haard leg kick by Belbita. And Oliveira takes down Belbita. Nasty elbows by Belbita from guard. Oliveira shutting down Belbita’s attempts to get back up. More elbows by Belbita. And Oliveira drops back for a leg lock while being on top! She fails to get the submission and Belbita gets up. One minute left. Hard leg kicks by Belbita. Oliveira seems to be slowing down. Big left hand for Belbita! Oliveira having a tough time connecting. The bell rings.

Round 1 – Big leg kick by Dvorak. Another one. Plenty of movement here by Dvorak. Erceg is following, but not throwing much. Now, Erceg lands a few kicks. Oh, big left hood counter by Erceg. It seems to have stunned Dvorak, but he looks good now. More kicks by Dvorak. Anda nice right hand connects for Dvorak. Two minutes left. Both fighters having success with the kicks. Good jab by Erceg. Big leg kicks by Dvorak. Anothet one. The bell rings. Close round.

Round 2 – A couple of right hands connect early for Dvorak. Same dynamic: Dvorak on the outside staying mobile and Erceg chasing. Dvorak connecting clean with a combo. Erceg having a tough time landing. Three minutes left. Hard right hand by Dvorak. And Erceg wobbles Dvorak! He’s rocked! Erceg jumps for a guillotine. Looks tight! And Dvorak splits out and survives. He’s now on top with 30 seconds remaining. Good shots by Dvorak from top! Erceg gets up in the final seconds and the bell rings.

Round 3 – Erceg seems to be pressuring much more in this round. Good leg kicks by Erceg. They get into a scramble and Erceg almost takes the back, but the fight ends back on the feet. Dvorak presses Erceg against the cage. Good leg kicks by Erceg. Dvorak shoots for a takedown, almost gets it, but Erceg defends well. And Dvorak gets his takedown. Two minutes left. Erceg gets back up. And now Erceg gets a takedown, but Dvorak gets back up just to be controlled against the cage. Erceg lands some shots while controlling right before the bell rings.

Blake Bilder vs. Kyle Nelson

Round 1 – Not much in the first minute, both fighters just testing each other out. Bilder shoots for a takedown and presses Nelson against the cage. Nelson reverses the position on Bilder and he now controls the action. Good knees by Nelson to the legs and thighs. Nelson trying to get a takedown, but unsuccessful. They break away with two minutes left. Bilder putting on the pressure on the feet. Good right hand by Bilder . Several shots connect for Bilder, who’s backing up Nelson. Good leg kick by Nelson. Another one. Clean right and by Nelson hurts Bilder! The bell rings.

Round 2 – Good body kick by Bilder. Oh, low blow by Nelson, but the referee doesn’t see it. Bilder is forced to fight through it, and he closes the distance and pins Nelson against the cage. Good control here by Bilder. They break away and back to striking. Nelson in the center of the cage and Bilder on the outside. Hard leg kick by Bilder. Two minutes left. Nelson with a leg kick. Both trading leg kicks. Nelson backs up Bilder with a few hard shots. The bell rings. Close round.

Round 3 – Bilder closes the distance and shoots for a takedown here. He’s unsuccessful, but pins Nelson against the cage. Good defense here by Nelson. Nelson reverses the position and now controls Bilder against the cage. Not much damage going on. The referee splits them up and resumes the fight on the feet. Two minutes left. Nice body shot by Nelson. Bilder with a right hand that seemed to have stunned Nelson briefly. Neither fighter connecting very clean. Good shots by Nelson here to close the round. The bell rings.

Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Miranda Maverick

Round 1 – Good leg kicks by Maverick early. Nice body kick by Maverick. They clinch in the middle of the octagon. They break free. More leg kicks by Maverick. Maverick shoots for a takedown and comes up short. She does follow that up by pressing Jasudavicius against the cage, but Jasudavicius hits a sweep and ends on top. Maverick setting up an armbar. It’s locked but Jasudavicius has Maverick staked up, unable to extend. Two minutes left. Still in the same position. One minute left. Still on the same position. The bell rings. Weird round to score.

Round 2 – More leg kicks by Maverick here. Good knees, right hook and head kick by Jasudavicius. She closes the distance on Maverick and pins her against the cage. Maverick gets free shortly after. He’s on top from turtle position. Curtis gets back up briefly, but Imavov drags him to the mat. Curtis back up, but pressed against the cage. He breaks free. Clean right-hand lands for Imavov. Short elbow by Imavov. Imavov pins Curtis against the cage. One minute left. Imavov takes down Curtis and gets his back. He’s working the rear-naked choke. Curtis escapes and gets back to his feet. The bell rings shortly.

Round 2 – Imavov comes out pressing, unlike the first. Curtis seems to have abandoned the leg kicks. Imavov connecting good shots here, but unable to hurt Curtis. Double jab by Imavov. Good shot to the body by Curtis. Imavov closes the distance and pins Curtis against the cage. They break free and there’s an accidental headbut from Imavov. Curtis goes down, and the fight is paused. Curtis is bleeding from his right eyebrow because of it. Curtis and the referee are arguing. Curtis says he can’t see after the five minutes given of recovery. The fight is over. Very unfortunate.

Anders with good, close quarters shots. This is getting heated! Anders now pressing Barriault against the cage. They break free. Anders pressing Barriault. Fun fight. Nasty hooks by Anders. Solid knee to the body by Barriault Two minutes left. What a wild fight. Anders presses Barriault against the cage and begins picking him apart with dirty boxing. Back to striking at range. Good right hand by Anders! And a nice left by Barriault. The bell rings. Crazy fight.

Round 2 – What a fight we got here. Anders get hit with a low blow here. The fight is paused. Anders takes a quick time out and the fight resumes. Two minutes left. They break free. Another low blow from Barriault hits Anders. The fight is paused. The fight resumes after a couple of minutes. Neither fighter is landing super clean at the moment, but Anders does seem to be getting the better of the exchanges. Body kick followed by a right hand from Barriault. The bell rings.

Slow pace from both fighters. A low blow from Mallott briefly stops the action, but the fight resumes. Two minutes left. Fugitt closes the distance for a takedown, but it’s he who gets taken down. And Fugitt gets back up. One minute left. Big shots miss for Mallott. Mallot catches a kick and gets a takedown. Mallott moves to side halfguard, but gets sucked back into guard. The bell rings.
