U.S. Closely Monitoring Potential Iranian Threat Against Israel

Israel supporters protest about the conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Bogota

The United States is closely monitoring what it perceives as credible threats of an Iranian attack on Israel following a strike on Iran's Damascus consulate. Reports suggest that Iran is considering a non-escalatory response. To bolster regional deterrence efforts and enhance force protection for U.S. forces, the U.S. is deploying additional assets to the Middle East region.

The U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications emphasized the real and viable threat posed by Iran and the need for vigilance. The U.S. is in constant communication with Israeli counterparts to ensure readiness for any potential attack.

Iran has threatened retaliation against Israel for an attack on its consulate in Damascus, resulting in casualties among Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members. Hezbollah leaders in Iran have also expressed readiness to retaliate against Israel.

U.S. CENTCOM Gen. Michael Kurilla visited Israel to assess military preparedness in response to threats from Iran. The State Department issued travel advisories for Israel, warning of possible terrorist attacks in the region.

Iran has indicated to the U.S. its intention to respond to the consulate attack without major escalation. Israel remains on high alert but has not issued specific instructions from its Home Front Command.

Experts suggest that Iran may pursue a measured response to avoid escalation. Gen. Jack Keane highlighted Iran's reluctance to engage in a full-scale war due to its military limitations. He recommended targeting Iran's IRGC assets to deter further aggression.

Analysts believe that Iran benefits from heightened tensions without launching an immediate attack. Delaying retaliation could lead to a stronger Israeli response, creating challenges for Iran in maintaining its strategic position.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Iran has refrained from direct attacks on Israel from its territory. The situation poses a significant test for Iran's leadership in avoiding a full-blown conflict while upholding its ideological stance.
