Two women murdered in separate cases in Bengaluru, husbands arrested

In two separate incidents, two women were murdered in the city on Friday, allegedly by their husbands, both of who have been arrested.

In one case, the victim, Kamaladevi, 45, hailed from Nepal and had been living in the city for the last two decades. According to the police, her husband Tej Bahadur, 52, had left over a marital dispute two years ago, but recently returned to the family home in B. Channasandra where Kamaladevi was living with her son.

On Friday night, when their son was out for work, the couple had a bitter fight when Tej Bahadur objected to Kamaladevi speaking to someone regularly on her phone. He accused her of infidelity and in a fit of rage stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife, said the police. On hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house, but it was too late. Tej Bahadur was arrested by the Ramamurthy Nagar police who arrived soon after.

In another case, the Byadarahalli police arrested a cab driver, Yogesh, 25, for murdering his wife, reportedly over dowry. The accused, who hails from Nagamangala in Mandya had married Soumya, 25, three years ago. However, their marriage was strained as Yogesh had been pestering Soumya to procure money and gold ornaments from her parents.

Investigations revealed that Soumya’s family had paid Yogesh money twice, but around three days prior to the murder, he demanded that she ask her parents for ₹2 lakh. During one of their fights, he strangled her to death with her own dupatta, said the police.

Yogesh then called up Soumya’s parents and claimed she had died of a heart attack. However, the parents expressed suspicions over the death and informed police. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder, the police said.
