Two Lexington high school seniors are recognized for "Being a Change.

Two seniors at Bryan Station High School are the recipients of 2024 “Be the Change” scholarships in Lexington. The $10,000 scholarships are available to students of color at Bryan Station. These are students who plan to further their education in criminal justice or related fields at an in-state school. Senior Aline Sandoval Cano says she’s involved in the EMT program at Southside Technical Center.

“Mental health is important over there. You see many traumatic things. So, I feel like for the families and for people who go through traumatic things, it’s ten times …I mean you could say it’s worse because they don’t seek any psychological therapy or something like that,” said Sandoval Cano.

Sandoval Cano plans to major in criminal psychology.

Michelle Moore is the other recipient of a “Be the Change” scholarship. She plans to major in nursing in labor and delivery.

“I’ve always wanted to help people and I mostly want to work in labor and delivery. My mom always told me how special the nurses made her feel through such a hard time. So I just think it’s so important for to just be there for women who really need it during that rough time,” said Moore.

Both seniors are bound for UK. The scholarship program is made possible through a partnership among the City, Galls, and Central Bank.
