Trump Faces Multiple Charges In Separate Jurisdictions

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Former President Trump is facing a series of charges in multiple jurisdictions, separate from the ongoing criminal case brought by Bragg. Special Counsel Jack Smith has charged Trump with various offenses, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. These charges are a result of Smith's investigation into Trump's alleged involvement in the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, and potential interference in the 2020 election.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on presidential immunity in relation to Smith's prosecution on April 25. The charges were filed in federal court in Washington D.C.

Additionally, Smith is looking into whether Trump unlawfully retained classified records from his presidency at Mar-a-Lago. Trump faces 37 felonies, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and false statements. A superseding indictment added three more counts, to which Trump also pleaded not guilty. These charges were brought in federal court in the Southern District of Florida.

In a separate investigation, Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis is probing alleged interference in the 2020 election. In August 2023, Willis charged Trump with various offenses, such as violation of the Georgia RICO Act, criminal solicitation, criminal conspiracy, filing false documents, and making false statements. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
