Tropical depression Two forms over Gulf of Mexico - US NHC

Tropical depression Two has formed over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to be a short-lived tropical storm, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Thursday.

The depression, located about 305 miles (490 km) west northwest of Fort Myers, Florida, packed maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour (55 km per hour), the Miami-based weather forecaster said.

"The system should begin to weaken by Friday night and degenerate into a remnant low by Saturday," NHC said.
