The fall season is often a time when respiratory disease prevention comes front and center. That’s because certain vaccinations are typically administered to meet school health requirements as well as protecting older citizens. Fayette County Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said some adults may be eligible for a three-shot array later this fall.
“For adults 60 and over they’re gonna be all three of these vaccines…the flu shot…the new COVID vaccine…and the RSV vaccine. Details on all of these will be coming out more widely throughout the community later,” said Hall.
Hall said the flu vaccine is not in yet, the RSV vaccine should be arriving soon, and he said health officials still await word on how the COVID vaccine is going to look.
Hall said while it may present as a common cold, RSV can be more serious for some very young and the older set.
“It can however have high risk for some infants, especially premature and adults over the age of 65, cause this can lead to pneumonia, worse heart conditions or lung conditions,” said Hall.
With school back in session, the health department representative said children entering kindergarten, sixth grade, and those at 16 all need certain vaccinations.
