The Script's Danny O'Donoghue rings Pink fan's ex in front of packed Sunderland crowd

The ex of a Pink fan in Sunderland will have got the shock of their lives this weekend when The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue rang them midway through the Irish band's support slot at the Stadium of Light.

Pink fans were over the moon earlier this year when it was announced that The Script would be the main warm up act for Pink's Summer Carnival tour and, having played two nights in Bolton with the American star on Wednesday and Thursday, Danny and his bandmates wowed a full house on Wearside on both Saturday and Sunday.

The band shared snapshots of their appearance on Sunday on their Instagram, with a camera on stage picking up their entrance and setlist opener Superheroes. And footage of a very interest moment from their set was also shared with their legions of fans on social media, when Danny asked if there was anyone 'crazy' enough in the Sunderland audience to hand him their phone and get him to, not only speak to their ex, but also dedicate a song to them.

A fan named Kayleigh was quick to volunteer her phone, to have Danny speak to her ex Justin, with Danny beginning the call by telling Justin: "This is not a joke," before asking him to 'stay on the line' and switch to FaceTime so he could get the full affect of having a full stadium listen in on their conversation and the performance of Nothing, which includes the line ' 'So I dialled her number and confessed to her I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing).'

After that moment proved to be a huge talking point, The Script rounded off their set with classics from their back catalogue, Breakeven and Hall of Fame.

Danny did the same thing when The Script headlined the Utilita Arena in Newcastle last year, telling the guy, named Chris: "I swear this isn't a prank! Please stay on the line, your ex girlfriend want me to sing this song for ya."
