The Rangers training ground impact for John Souttar Celtic header detailed by Ibrox star

John Souttar has detailed the Rangers training ground work that ended with him scoring a 'dream' goal against Celtic at Ibrox.

The Scotland international has endured an injury hit first campaign as a Light Blues player but has returned to the fold in recent weeks and was pitched in from the start alongside Connor Goldson in the Old Firm derby yesterday due to Ben Davies' injury.

Michael Beale grabbed his first win in five attempts against Celtic and Ange Postecoglou in a comfortable three goal victory with Souttar heading home the second from a James Tavernier corner. It is a routine that they've worked on with Harry Watling and it paid off. Todd Cantwell - who put in a man of the match display - grabbed the opener after just five minutes with Fashion Sakala rounding off the scoring in Govan.

Speaking to Rangers TV after the game, Souttar said: “It was class, it is something we work on with Harry [Watling] to attack that front post and drag them in and thankfully we did that. It was a great delivery from the skipper, and I was there to put it in.

“It has been a tough season for me and when you are injured you just think about those kinds of moments and almost dream of scoring in those moments so for me to get that goal was massive and I really enjoyed it.”

He continued: “I think it was a big day for everyone, individually and collectively, to finish out what has been a tough season to get the three points and the clean sheet.

“We started really aggressively, we started on the front foot, and I think that is when we are at our best. Especially in Old Firm's if you start well usually more than often you are the better team so for us to start the way we did was massive, and the crowd got behind us and the atmosphere got behind us and it really drove us on.

“We have got great attacking players, I thought they were really good today so I think if we can keep a clean sheet and keep solid, we have got every chance of winning the game and thankfully we did today.”
