The One Show's Alex Jones says she was a 'wreck' before husband Charlie as she shares sweet insight into marriage

The One Show's Alex Jones has given a sweet insight into her relationship with husband Charlie Thomson. The pair, who share three children together, met at a party in 2011 and tied the knot on New Year's Eve in 2015 at as Cardiff Castle ceremony.

Alex, who is currently hosting BBC Two's Reunion Hotel, opened up about the couple's relationship in the early days on the Waitrose food podcast, Dish. The 46-year-old sat down with broadcaster Nick Grimshaw and Michelin star chef and restaurateur Angela Hartnett for an unfiltered chat over food.

During the conversation, Angela asked Alex: "So hubby does all the cooking then?" Responding, the Welsh presenter joked: "Well yes, he used to be a chef and that's really the reason I married him. I was a wreck before he came along."

Sharing a rare insight into the couple's romance in the early days, Alex continued: "He came to the flat and he was like 'where is the food?' and I had nail varnish in the fridge.

"He said 'right you can't survive like this, what do you eat?' and I said 'tomatoes on toast' and he was like 'right, this is pathetic.'"

Nick then asked: "So does he do it [cook] all the time because he was chef, he worked with Gordon Ramsay, right? I mean, does a chef love making the tea when they get home from work?"

"Yeah, so he's not a chef anymore but the love of food is still there," Alex explained. "So this is win-win for us, it's better." The presenter added: "And he's really fussy about how the dishwasher is loaded so I get out of that as well."

Curious, Angela then asked: "When did he give up cheffing, he just didn't want to do it anymore?" Alex responded: "Before we met, but not long before we met, so probably about 14 years ago now, he gave up but he still loves it. He makes your soup a lot."

Revealing that Charlie was excited to hear Alex was appearing on the Dish podcast, the mum-of-three said: "He doesn't get impressed at all with anything but Angela Hartnett, oh that's a different kettle of fish." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
