The 1975’s Matty Healy quits social media as he promises to stop being a ‘f***ing a***hole’

The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has revealed he’s quit social media in a bid to be a “normal bloke” off stage.

The British musician deactivated his Instagram page over the weekend, leaving fans stunned at his sudden disappearance.

The son of Loose Women’s Denise Welch and actor Tim Healy made the admission on Monday during the band’s gig in Adelaide, Australia and said that his era of being an “a***hole is coming to an end”.

As reported by The Sun, he lamented: “It’s [coming off social media] because everything happens in eras. The 1975 is a very eras band. The era of me being a f***ing a***hole is coming to an end. I’ve had enough.

“I perform all the time and it’s my job and I love doing this, but I can’t perform off the stage any more as I just want to be a bloke.”

Healy has previously hit the headlines for his outspoken behaviour. Notably, his bandmates cut him off live on stage in Leeds in January after he tried to launch into an explicit rant.

During the same tour, the singer, 34, ate raw meat on stage and kissed his fans mid show.

Aside from his on-stage antics, he faced backlash when he told an Irish fan named Dervla that her name “sounded like something you move gravel with” during a meet-and-greet last October.

Not only that, Healy got himself in hot water with Taylor Swift fans when he previously said dating the acclaimed American hitmaker would be “a de-masculating, emasculating thing”.

In February, the Oh Caroline hitmaker felt the wrath of Liam Gallagher after Healy shared his want for an Oasis reunion during an interview with Q With Tom Power.

In light of his remarks, Gallagher responded to a fan on Twitter who asked him about the comments and possibility of a reunion, posing the question: “Matty Healy says you’re just wasting your time and you should stop being like children… what do you think?”

Gallagher bluntly responded: “It’s our time to waste – who made him the boss of time?”
