Taylor Swift sparks huge demand for UK beauty spot after The Lakes song goes TikTok viral

Taylor Swift is convincing fans to visit the Lake District ahead of her upcoming UK tour after a recent track about Lake Windermere went viral on TikTok.

The Lakes, a bonus track on the 2020 album Folklore, has seen a recent resurgence on social media after the singer played the song as part of a surprise addition to her Eras tour in Chicago last month.

UK holiday provider Parkdean Resort has revealed that demand for ‘Lake District holidays’ online has skyrocketed by 217% in the last month thanks to Taylor. In the week of June 19-25 alone, search traffic was up by 311%.

According to TikTok, videos featuring the track have been viewed more than 8.7 million times. The hashtag #thelakestaylorswift has also received more than 3.4 million views.

One video, by user @maaaaacccccc, received over 215,000 views after the fan shared her trip to ‘The Lakes’. After exploring the countryside and local towns, the fan stated that Taylor Swift was a ‘genius’ to sing a song about the picturesque location.

A spokesperson from Parkdean Resorts said: “With Taylor Swift fans wanting to visit the Lakes as a result of her song, ‘The Lakes’, demand for Lake District holidays is soaring with 12,100 people searching for the ‘Lake District holidays’ in the last month alone.

“Over the past month, we have not only noticed an increase in search volume, but a spike in Lake District bookings also. After TikTok went viral in May we noticed bookings started to double. With this in mind, The Lake District is seemingly the go-to UK destination this summer for Swifties and UK Holidaymakers.”

The singer recently unveiled a string of dates for the UK leg of her Eras tour. While the singer is not set to appear in Manchester, she will be performing two nights in Liverpool.

Tickets for the shows are set to go on sale later this month - with some eagle-eyed fans already trying to figure out how much tickets to the Liverpool show could cost.
