Sydney see off Bulldogs bid for star ruck Ally Morphett

Star ruck Ally Morphett has set her sights on taking her game to the next level after re-signing with Sydney for the next four AFLW seasons.

Morphett enjoyed a breakout season in 2023, announcing herself as one of the best rucks in the competition before a broken wrist brought her campaign to an end in round seven.

The Western Bulldogs were keen to lure the 20-year-old their way, with Collingwood and Essendon also among the chasing pack.

But Morphett, who spent one season at GWS before joining the Swans last year, is now locked in with Sydney until the end of 2027.

"I am so excited to have committed my future to the Swans," Morphett said in a statement.

"This club is where I can take my footy to another level.

"I've seen what I can do in two years and can't wait for what's to come. I can't wait to work with my teammates to keep building and striving for success.

"People talk about the 'Bloods culture,' it really is something special.

"From the simple things like eating together in the dining room, to the men's team showing up at our games to support us, it all matters.

"It's like being part of a family, we all work together under the one roof, we all strive for success together, we are one club."

Morphett was tasked by coach Scott Gowans to improve her fitness ahead of the 2023 season and she responded by averaging 17.9 disposals and 29.3 hit-outs per game.

Her hot form helped set the foundations for Sydney's maiden run to the finals.

Sydney's hopes of a dream flag came to a crashing halt last week when they copped a 67-point semi-final loss to Adelaide.
