A man and woman have been charged over the death of a man at South Kempsey on the NSW mid north coast earlier this year.

A 39-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the chest at a property on Robert Eggins Street, South Kempsey, in March.

He died at the scene.

Police started Strike Force Weigand to investigate the death, and on Wednesday executed a search warrant at an address in the Sydney suburb of Airds.

Officers arrested 48-year-old Conrad Lardner, who was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with murder.

He was refused bail at Campbelltown local court and will appear before Kempsey local court on June 21.

Police said multiple items seized during the search, including electronic devices and clothing, would undergo forensic examination.

Detective Inspector Peter O'Reilly says the people involved were known to each other. (Supplied)

Detective Inspector Peter O'Reilly said the victim and those charged were known to each other.

"The community at Kempsey is a relatively small community, so the people were certainly known to each other," he said.

31-year-old woman Leearna Davis was arrested in Kempsey and charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

She was refused bail at Kempsey local court and will next appear on July 19.
