Steph Curry shares thoughts on not being an All-Star starter

Steph Curry will not be an All-Star starter this year. The Golden State Warriors veteran guard missed a starting spot: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic both earning more fan votes. As such, Curry will likely be an All-Star reserve.

Following the Warriors’ loss to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, when Curry had a costly late-game turnover, he discussed this year’s All-Star selection. Curry noted how the two guards picked ahead of him have both been enjoying fantastic seasons.

“You got two guys that have been playing amazingly this year in Luka and Shai,” Curry said. “I’ve been around doing this for a very long time. … Those two guys are playing amazing, they deserve it. Hopefully, I’m there in Indiana in whatever capacity. But, to still be doing it at this stage (of my career) is always a challenge. I never take it for granted, the fact how hard it is to be recognized in that way every year.”

Curry is a nine-time All-Star. He undoubtedly understands how the voting process works and that he will still likely be part of the All-Star weekend. The NBA has a wave of younger guards who are making a big impression this season. It was always going to be difficult to become a starter at this year’s All-Star game.

Curry has played in 39 games this season, his 15th, and he is averaging 26.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 44.8% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point range. His focus is likely on helping the Warriors turn the season around and guiding them to the postseason rather than whether he’s starting or coming off the bench during All-Star weekend.
