Sleep-knitting! Everyone's new mother Diane! The internet reacts to The Traitors season 2

Happy murdering! After becoming a word-of-mouth success back at the end of 2022, The Traitors has now returned for a second season, complete with a brand new batch of plucky hopefuls hellbent on bagging the £120,000 prize fund.

The first episode of the show aired last night (January 3) and the first three episodes are now on iPlayer. "Capes at the ready, murder mystery fans, this is shaping up into another deceitful doozy," we wrote in our 4-star review.

Though it’s still early days for this year’s cast, the first three episodes have already delivered an abundance of iconic moments - from 66-year old retiree Sonja somehow managing to knit while also appearing to be asleep in a silk blindfold, to Tracey's psychic advisors, and Andrew casually weightlifting in his bedroom, his torso glistening with some sort of oil.

While the entire premise The Traitors came as a massive surprise the first time around, viewers will now be better versed in the show’s effortless grasp of camp. It’s already clear that the production team have risen to the occasion on this front ‒ Claudia Winkleman now has an owl sidekick, relentlessly mocks one group as they fail to steer a rowing boat, and at one point smashes through the fourth wall by handing “YOU!” ‒ the viewers at home ‒ a wax-sealed invite to become a Traitor.

Though it’s still very early days in the castle, with our new gang of Traitors still finding their feet among the Faithful, the internet is already starting to appoint its icons. Among the early favourites? No-nonsense retired teacher Diane, Tracey the clairvoyant, and once again, Claudia Winkleman’s high-thread count knitwear.
