Sky to launch new Sky Stream in UK and prices have been confirmed

Sky has announced the launch of the new Sky Stream in the UK, the latest innovation following Sky Glass. Launching in October 2022 the new innovation will deliver the Sky Glass experience without the expensive price tag.

It means Sky customers will now be able to get the best entertainment streamed straight to any TV over Wi-Fi, with no dish or installation required. Users will just need to simply plug the device into any TV to enjoy all of their favourite shows and movies in minutes.

Instead of splashing hundreds on a Sky Glass TV customers can now opt for the Sky Stream instead which will work on any TV with a broadband connection. Sky Stream brings the Sky Glass UI and experience to even more people following the launch of the world’s first streaming TV last year.

Sky Stream will be available to buy in the UK from October 18, 2022 on Sky.com, with next-day delivery as standard. Alternatively, shoppers can buy at a Sky Retail store or hub near to them. Sky says Sky Stream is the most affordable way to get Sky TV and Netflix together, with combined packages from £26 a month.

Sky Stream features

Sky Stream - Sky say these are the highlights:

  • Sky TV with no dish - entertainment streamed straight to any TV over Wi-Fi
  • Promise of an unbeatable price - stream Sky TV with Netflix included as standard for as little as £1 a day, including over 120 channels and must-watch shows like House of the Dragon, Succession and Gangs of London
  • Flexibility - 31-day rolling plan you can cancel at any time, or an 18-month contract for the best value
  • Compact size - cutting-edge features and award-winning content in the palm of your hand
  • Smart Sky Glass UI - brings together all your channels, shows and apps into one place
  • Clever features like - Restart live TV and Playlist make your TV smarter
  • Voice remote helps you find shows in a flash and control your tv with your voice
  • Regular updates for a constantly evolving experience.

Putting a wealth of content at your fingertips, Sky Stream is said to offer unmissable shows not on Freeview, and aggregates the best content from top entertainment, music and fitness apps including Apple TV+, Amazon Prime, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, YouTube, Discovery+, Peacock, Fiit and more.

Stephen van Rooyen, Executive Vice President & CEO, UK & Europe of Sky, said: “Sky’s always reinvented the TV experience and offered the best content but it’s not always been accessible to everyone.

"There couldn’t be a better time to launch our latest innovation using the Sky Glass Platform, whether you want to stream House of the Dragon, Gangs of London or Stranger Things, Sky Stream has it all. It’s the most affordable and easiest way to get Sky TV and Netflix together, offering consumers the value they are seeking right now.”

Popular apps like Netflix, Disney+, iPlayer, Amazon Prime or more, will all be in one place on Sky Stream, meaning users can get their favourite shows in seconds. There are also helpful genre categories as well as voice search to find content quickly - simply say ‘House of the Dragon,’ or ‘Show me comedy’ to search for shows or get inspiration. Users can even voice search the whole of YouTube to get to what they want easily.

Those who find something they love but want to watch it later, can create a personal Playlist from apps and channels, both live and on demand. When they want to Playlist something, they can click the ‘+’ on their remote and it’ll be saved in the cloud for whenever they are ready to watch. And with Restart, they will never miss the start of their show again, meaning users can jump into any show that’s on live TV and watch from the beginning.

Everything users watch on Sky Stream is ready to enjoy in HD as standard, with UHD also available. If TV lovers have an HDR ready TV, they will enjoy an even more dynamic and vivid viewing experience, and if they have a compatible sound bar Sky Stream is also Dolby Atmos ready.

How to get Sky Stream

Sky says Sky Stream is compatible with any broadband provider, with a minimum speed of 10Mbps required. Shoppers can opt for either a 31-day rolling plan from £29 a month that can be cancelled at any time, or an 18-month contract from just £26 a month, both of which include Sky Ultimate TV & Netflix Basic.

They can also add on packs and services including Sky Cinema, Sky Sports, BT Sport and UHD & Dolby Atmos. If you’d like Sky TV on more than one telly, upgrade to the Whole Home pack for an extra £12 a month, letting you have up to five additional Sky Stream devices wherever you’d like in your home.

There is a £39.95 set-up fee (or £20 if you take an 18-month contract), no need for engineer installation, and next-day delivery is standard so you can enjoy content with Sky Stream quickly and easily. Plus, there’s a one-year warranty.
