Sky Stream - Everything you need to know

Sky Stream is the newest addition to the Sky TV lineup and it will allow Brits to watch live television, exclusive channels and their favourite boxsets, sports and movies without a satellite dish.

The new Stream box follows on from the launch of Sky’s Glass TV which came out in October, 2021. The box means customers who don’t want to fork out on a Sky Glass TV but want the experience of not having to rely on a satellite connection can do so with Stream.

With Stream, everything is beamed over Wi-Fi, like Glass, which means TV lovers don’t have to worry about a weak TV signal as long as they have a good broadband connection. The tiny TV box can plug into any television and start streaming with no dish or installation required.

Popular apps like Netflix, Disney+, iPlayer, Amazon Prime or more, will all be in one place on Sky Stream, meaning users can get their favourite shows in seconds. There are also helpful genre categories as well as voice search to find content quickly - simply say ‘House of the Dragon,’ or ‘Show me comedy’ to search for shows or get inspiration. Users can even voice search the whole of YouTube to get to what they want easily.

Everything users watch on Sky Stream is ready to enjoy in HD as standard, with UHD also available. If TV lovers have an HDR ready TV, they will enjoy an even more dynamic and vivid viewing experience, and if they have a compatible sound bar Sky Stream is also Dolby Atmos ready.

Prices start from £26 per month , with Sky offering next-day delivery at no cost with all orders. And because there’s no installation required, there’s no extra costs or delays, as those who order a Sky Q box are waiting longer for an appointment as they need an engineer to install it.

Their Sky Stream £26 a month plan is across 18 months and includes Sky Entertainment alongside Netflix originals and unmissable shows not on Freeview.

While it promises to deliver the Sky Glass experience, Stream customers won’t be able to fast-forward the adverts, without paying extra. Sky Stream viewers will need to pay an extra £5 per month to fast-forward through the adverts in on-demand and catch-up content. The feature is free for the first 18-months though, regardless of whether you opt for an 18-month or 31-day rolling contract.

Sky Stream comes with a voice-controlled remote, like Sky Glass does too. There’s only a choice of one colour though, both for the box and remote, which is Anthracite Black. Sky does sell its redesigned remote control separately via Amazon UK for £29.99 . Buying this accessory from Amazon and pairing it with Sky Stream will work, but those who have Glass don’t have to do this if they want a different colour.
