Sky Stream: Everything you need to know about the device

Sky Stream launched in October 2022 and is the newest addition to the Sky TV lineup.

It lets users watch live television, exclusive channels, boxsets, sports and movies without needing a satellite dish. The Stream box follows the launch of Sky's 'Glass TV' which launched in October 2021.

The streaming box means that customers who don't want to pay for a Sky Glass TV can still get the experience of not having to rely on a satellite. With the Stream, everything is controlled over Wi-Fi.

One advantage of Sky Stream TV fans won't need to worry about a weak signal as long as the Wi-Fi connection is stable. There are a number of popular apps available via Stream, including Disney+ and iPlayer.

What is Sky Stream

Popular apps such as Disney+. iPlayer, Amazon Prime and Netflix will all be available on Sky Stream. There's a genre category as well as a voice search function to help you find your favourite show quickly.

Similar to Apple's Siri, simply say 'show me comedy' to search for comedy shows or get some inspiration. Those using Sky Stream can also voice search apps such as YouTube to watch channels quickly and effectively.

How does Sky Stream work

The tiny TV box can plug into any television and start streaming with no dish installation needed. It's basically ready to go straight out of the box, and all you need to do is plug it into the HDMI port on your TV and the power supply.

It takes minutes to load, with on-screen instructions to connect to Wi-Fi to prepare streaming. As Sky Stream operates entirely via a broadband connection, you'll need a minimum speed of at least 10Mbps.

How much does Sky Stream cost

Prices for the Sky Stream start from £26, and Sky also offer next-day delivery at no cost with all orders. Since there is no installation required, there are no hidden extra costs or delays - this makes the product a little easier to deal with than its rival Sky Q.

The Sky Stream monthly plan is £26 across 18 months and features Sky Entertainment alongside Netflix originals and shows that aren't available on Freeview. As reported by Manchester Evening News, Stream customers won’t be able to fast-forward the adverts, without paying extra.

Sky Stream viewers will need to pay an extra £5 per month to fast-forward through the adverts in on-demand and catch-up content. The feature is free for the first 18-months though, regardless of whether you opt for an 18-month or 31-day rolling contract.

Sky Stream also comes with a voice-controlled remote, like Sky Glass does too. There’s only a choice of one colour though, both for the box and remote, which is Anthracite Black.
