Shohei Ohtani showcased his prowess on both sides of the ball as the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night. Ohtani's two-run homer and crucial run in the seventh inning propelled the Dodgers to victory after initially surrendering a 3-0 lead.

Recognizing Ohtani's impact, the Los Angeles city council declared May 17 as Shohei Ohtani Day in honor of the Japanese superstar, who recently signed a monumental $700 million, 10-year contract with the team.

Ohtani's stellar performance came on the heels of a bobblehead night where he went hitless, but he quickly made amends with a standout display on the field. His 30 extra-base hits this season are tied with Dodgers legend Duke Snider for the most in the team's first 47 games, highlighting his exceptional talent.

With the game tied at 3, Will Smith's single brought in Ohtani, who capitalized on a fielder's choice and an error to secure the go-ahead run. The Dodgers further extended their lead to 7-3 with a two-run homer by Jason Heyward in the eighth inning.

Manager Dave Roberts praised Ohtani's hitting prowess, emphasizing his ability to generate power to all fields. Ohtani's 13th homer of the season and his overall performance have been instrumental in the Dodgers' success this year.

Despite a brief scare after surrendering their lead, the Dodgers managed to avoid a three-game losing streak with this victory. Mookie Betts' early home run and a solid defensive effort helped the team secure the win.

The Reds fought back with solo home runs by Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Dodgers' resilient performance.

In terms of injuries, the Reds placed LHP Justin Wilson on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder tightness, while the Dodgers saw INF Max Muncy sidelined with a right oblique strain.

Looking ahead, Reds RHP Graham Ashcraft is set to face Dodgers RHP Walker Buehler in the upcoming game, promising an exciting matchup between the two teams.

Overall, the Dodgers' victory showcased their resilience and offensive firepower, with Ohtani's standout performance earning him well-deserved recognition on Shohei Ohtani Day in Los Angeles.
