Los Angeles Dodgers' star player Shohei Ohtani made history by surpassing Hideki Matsui's record for the most home runs hit by a Japanese-born player in Major League Baseball. Ohtani achieved this milestone by hitting a two-run homer deep into the right field bleachers off Adrian Houser of the New York Mets during the third inning of Sunday's game at Dodger Stadium.

This significant home run marked Ohtani's 176th in his six-plus seasons in the majors, surpassing Matsui's previous record. Matsui, who played the final 10 seasons of his 20-year pro career in North America, held the record until Ohtani's remarkable feat.

Ohtani's record-breaking blast was an impressive display of power, traveling 423 feet with a 110-mph exit velocity. The home run not only set a new record but also gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the game. Prior to this game, Ohtani had gone seven games without hitting a home run, making this achievement even more remarkable.

Since joining the Dodgers on a lucrative $700 million contract last winter, Ohtani has been a standout performer for the team. This home run marked his fifth for the Dodgers, adding to the 171 homers he hit during his six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.

This record-breaking moment solidifies Ohtani's status as one of the premier players in Major League Baseball and highlights his exceptional talent and power at the plate.
