Shock as Scottish factory announces mass redundancies with 65 jobs at risk

PLASTIC firm Berry BPI has announced the closure of its manufacturing operations in Greenock with the loss of up to 65 jobs.

The long standing company based at Port Glasgow Road made the shock announcement to stunned staff at a meeting this morning.

Berry BPI blamed a reduction in demand from customers in construction, industrial packaging and healthcare for the decision to shut down the facility.

A spokesman said: "As a result, BPI has regrettably had to announce a number of possible redundancies, with up to 65 roles potentially affected. We will endeavour, where at all possible, to find suitable alternative employment for our employees either within or outside the Berry Group."

The financial shared service centre and the Head Office on site will remain open and is unaffected.
