Serena Williams’ timeless and versatile exterior paint color is 2024’s must-have shade – here's why

Serena Williams.

The best way to ensure timeless color is to opt for a lack of color. White has been one of the most popular colors for centuries; from the traditional farmhouse to contemporary, geometric homes, the shade is a go-to for homeowners seeking a versatile, timeless shade of paint.

In case we need any more proof that white will continue its popular reign in 2024, Serena Williams’s modern Miami home is painted in a crisp, bright white. The tennis star took to Instagram to share a sweet image with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, showcasing the couple’s stylish white home, Cyprus tree, and light gray granite driveway. This color trend isn’t going anywhere.

Serena’s exterior paint color is popular among designers because it can be used in many different contexts.

‘Whether for the inside or outside of a house, antique or contemporary, white paint provides a flexible base,’ says Jennifer Ebert, the digital editor at Homes & Gardens

‘I especially like white paint for the outside of a home because it allows you to switch up your landscaping without any fuss,'

In this case, Serena and Alexis have opted for simple greenery with a single Cyprus tree. However, if they wanted to switch it up and go for more of a wild garden look in a few years, the house would look equally elegant because of its versatile color.’

Jennifer adds: ‘Warm white paint like Serena Willams’s also pairs beautifully with absolutely any outdoor fixtures. For example, in this photo, you see the couple’s contemporary, angular light fixtures, lending a modern look. However, if swapped for something more mid-century, the white paint would also work for an elegant and traditional spin on the home. Essentially, the energy of white paint can be molded to whatever design style you choose.'

Interior design experts also love that this color will never fade away as a design style .’There is no color more classic or timeless than white,’ adds Megan Slack, Head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens.

‘Though the way white is used shifts over time, the color is always part of the conversation. This makes it the perfect choice for the exterior of a home because you won’t have to paint more than every 5-10 years to remain on trend.’

Serena Williams’s classic paint color has been on trend since we can remember, and it will continue to impress long into 2024 and beyond. We're starting with one of our favorite exterior whites, available via Backdrop below.
