Selma Blair says she’s ‘building stamina’ amid battle with multiple sclerosis

Selma Blair has shared an updated on health amid her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

The actress, 51, opened up about her condition while attending 2023 Glamour Women of the Year Awards in New York City on Tuesday.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the event, Blair detailed her current remission and how she has been adjusting to life with the condition since her diagnosis in 2018.

The Cruel Intentions star said that she’s “feeling really, really much stronger now and building stamina”, adding that the disease had “been, for really many, many years, burning” before she began her treatment.

The actress also expressed her gratitude to finding a “community” in the aftermath of her diagnosis and said she is honoured to be able to bring attention to issues faced by individuals living with multiple sclerosis and other life affecting conditions.

She concluded: “It's been a really lovely journey in this second part of my life, of finding [my] community and realising that nothing feels as good as helping to be a megaphone for other people.

“It is such an honour to be an advocate for people with disabilities.”

Her comments come after she paid tribute to her pal, late Friends actor Matthew Perry, who died last month aged 54.

In the wake of his passing, the actress said she found comfort in the outpouring of remembrance for the star, saying his “comedy was therapy”.

She told Extra: “I love it. I know Matthew really, really loved touching people and his comedy was therapy.

“That show [Friends], it was beloved because we could get into shows like that on primetime and create a family – so many people could create a family with these characters.”

Blair starred in a season nine episode of the hit sitcom where she played Chandler’s flirtatious colleague Wendy during his short-lived stint in Oklahoma.

She continued: “I love that it affects everyone and that it’s good to grieve. We realise how precious things are when we have the dark seasons.

“And so I gladly hold this dark season for Matthew, who meant so much to me.”
