Search operation continues for man missing from town in Clare

A multi-agency search operation for a missing man is underway in Co Clare.

Gardai confirmed that a search is being carried out by a number of rescue bodies in the town of Ennis.

The operation was mounted by gardai on Sunday, following reports that a man aged in his 60s was missing in the Ballybeg area in the south of the town.

It is understood that the individual was last captured on CCTV leaving his house on Saturday evening.

Yesterday, Clare Civil Defence carried out ground searches, while a number of volunteers launched drones with built-in thermal imaging capacities, in an effort to find the missing man.

Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, took to the sky to assist.

The search was stood down on Sunday night, after the Civil Defence, his work colleagues, neighbours and members of the public were unable to locate the missing man.

Gardai confirmed to the Irish Mirror that the search operation resumed this Monday morning.

"Searches are currently being conducted by Gardaí and numerous other agencies in the Ennis area for a person reported as missing," a Garda spokesperson said.

No further information is available at this time, they added.
