Scots crime author Denise Mina to have Morrow books adapted into multi-series TV show

Scots crime author Denise Mina is set to have her Morrow book series turned into a multi-season TV show.

David Kane, who is the lead writer on the BBC drama Shetland, is working alongside the East Kilbride author on the project.

The 62-year-old screenwriter believes the show will run for multiple seasons, despite not currently having a broadcaster attached. The Morrow series, which is based in Glasgow, follows DS Alex Morrow as she tackles crime in her own city.

“I’m very attracted by the opportunity to present a version of modern multi-cultural Glasgow, but one that doesn’t shy away from the city’s past,” said Kane told Deadline.

“It is different, more diverse, but still has that dark underbelly of crime. The criminals and the police know each other, sometimes they mix socially, and with Alex Morrow and her half-brother Danny, we take it even further – they’re family .

He continued: “It is such rich territory for a writer. And most of all, I love Denise Mina, and adapting her work feels very natural to me. I can find the voice of her characters easily, and always enjoy doing so.”

Mina added on the news: "You’d be hard-pressed to fit a Rizla between my writing and Davie Kane’s, and I’m well aware that I’m bigging myself up in saying that.

"He’s a funny, brutal, wild writer and I’m honoured whenever our names are put together."

This isn't the first time the two powerhouse writers have collaborated, as Kane and Mina previously worked on the adaptation of The Field of Blood which starred Peter Capaldi and David Morrissey.

The BBC drama was based on Mina's book of the same name from her Patricia Meehan trilogy.
