Samajwadi Party Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav Cremated, Many Eminent Persons Attend Last Rites

Saifai: Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday at Saifai Mahotsav Ground in his ancestral village Saifai in Etawah.

His son Akhilesh Yadav performed the last rites and lit the pyre.

Mulayam Singh passed away on Monday in a Gurugram Hospital. He was 83.

Ocean of people gathered at Saifai to bid tearful farewell to the SP Supremo.

Netaji’s elder brother Abhay Ram Yadav, younger brother PSP chief Shivpal Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav were among many family members who were present at the funeral. 

Besides, a large number of prominent persons including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Bhaghel, Uttar Pradesh PWD Minister Jitin Prasada, Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, NCP leaders Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule and Praful Patel, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pramod Tiwari, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, Industrialist Anil Ambani were present to offer their last respects to Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Expressing his grief over the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "We had a very strong relationship. Mulayam Singh Yadav was a big personality in Indian politics, it is a huge loss for the country. We all have come here to pay our tribute to him.” 

Born on November 22, 1939, in Saifai village of Etawah district, Mulayam Singh rose quickly in politics and became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice; he also served in the Union government once as the Defence Minister.

He was elected 10 times as MLA and 7 times as Lok Sabha MP. (with Agency inputs)
