Ryan Tubridy has shared an adorable memory of meeting President Micheal D Higgins' dog Brod in a heartwarming tribute.

Brod, one of the President's Bernese Mountain Dogs, sadly died aged 10, it was announced on Friday. RTE star, Ryan, took to Instagram to share his grief with a photo of him taking a selfie with Brod.

The Late Late Show host's caption read: "A fond memory of this canine selfie at the Áras with the President's beautiful dog, Brod, who sadly died yesterday." Brod and two-year-old Misneach won the hearts of the nation as they welcomed international dignitaries to the Áras an Uachtaráin.

In an emotional tribute, a spokesperson for President Higgins spoke about how Brod came to the Aras as an eight-week-old puppy and was loved by all that met him. They added: "He enjoyed meeting with the thousands of members of the public who came to Aras an Uachtarain over the years and he was probably one of the most photographed dogs in Ireland.

"He will be missed by the President, Sabina, and all at the Aras, particularly Misneach, the President’s remaining dog who is two and a half years old, and who has shared his space with Brod over recent months and was his constant companion, aware of Brod’s situation and very attentive to him."
