RTE Liveline caller helps reunite woman with ring accidentally lost at Dublin Airport

A woman who lost her precious engagement ring in Dublin Airport has thanked a kind-hearted Liveline caller for finding it.

Siobhan, from Ashbourne in Co Meath, was passing through Dublin Airport three weeks ago on August 4 with her daughter to Salou when her engagement ring was accidentally lost. She told RTE Liveline presenter Joe Duffy: "We were flying out at 5:45pm that evening, we left the house and I was in a bit of a hurry thinking of the queues at the airport.

"So I took my three rings that I always wear my wedding ring, my engagement ring and dress ring. I was a bit warm, so I shoved my rings into the pouch of my purse and I got to the airport and thinking I'd put them back on later when we settle down."

Siobhan said they were at Terminal 1 in Dublin Airport that day and when they landed in Salou, she noticed that her engagement ring was missing. "I've had the rings 25 years, I bought the ring in the McDowell Happy Ring on O'Connell Street opposite the GPO," she explained to Joe.

According to Siobhan, they were near gate 116 near the cafe bar and she opened her purse to pay for coffees. "There was a queue behind me waiting to get served and I was panicking, like God where is my bank card? I was looking really hard in my purse, so when I landed in Salou that evening and I went to put my rings on me that engagement ring was missing."

Siobhan immediately checked with lost property and waited for everyone to get off the plane to search for the ring. "My daughter and I were down on our hands and knees but we couldn't see it anywhere," she said.

Siobhan put out an appeal on social media and wrote in to Liveline asking for help to find her beloved ring, which she is planning on passing to her daughter. "It's of huge sentimental value, I still have the little ring box. It's just something hat has been consistent in my life for the last 25 years and then it's kind of a strange feeling when you lose it, like losing a person."

In a happy twist, Joe revealed that a Liveline caller, Joseph Holden, got in touch yesterday with the show after finding a distinctive gold ring. Joseph explained that he was travelling to Palermo on August 4 and when he was going though Terminal 1 he came across a "lovely little solitare ring".

Joseph said: "I decided not to hand it to security because I felt a bit awkward, so I said I'd hold onto it and do my own research when I got back from holidays. I'm back now and I phoned the show yesterday and there you go."

Joseph revealed that he found the ring on the countertop of the cafe bar. When asked if he's ever found lost items before, Joseph said: "No, I can't say I've found anything of so sentimental value of anybody else. It goes to show you there's still some goodness in the world."

Siobhan was overjoyed to hear that her beloved ring was found, and that it will be returned to her shortly. She told Joseph: "Thank you so much for minding it and looking for the owner. Thank you so much."
