RTE Late Late Show eagle-eyed viewers left very confused

RTE has assured fans that the iconic owl will return for the opening credits of The Late Late Show next Friday night.

Viewers were left dismayed and confused when the first episode of the new season on Friday night aired with the glaring omission of the show’s mascot. The owl has been used since the show began in 1962 with host Gay Byrne.

However, on Friday presenter Ryan Tubridy was joined by a live band and dancers outside the RTE studios in Donnybrook to kick off the new season. Twitter users were quick to point out the owl's absence, with one person tweeting: "Where is the owl?"

A second person asked: “Why does it have to start in such a cringey way?” while third was less subtle, posting: “WHERE THE F*** IS THE OWL?”

On Friday night, Ryan Tubridy was also joined by Riverdance legend Michael Flatley, Love Island winner Ekin-Su, and Pat Spillane.

A spokeswoman for RTE yesterday assured that the show’s feathered friend would return to its rightful slot in the intro next week. She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “The owl will be back next week. Last night’s opening was just for the first show back.”
