Royals are said to "relieved" Meghan will miss the King's Coronation next month - with one family member said to have been "uncomfortable" with her attending, it is reported.
It comes after Buckingham Palace said the family were "pleased to confirm" the Duke of Sussex will be at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
However, the Duchess of Sussex is to remain in California with the couple's children Lilibet, one, and Archie - who turns four on the same day as his grandfather's Coronation.
One royal observer commented: "Charles will be pleased. The rest of the family will be relieved that Meghan won't be there - it would have been particularly uncomfortable for Kate."
However Omid Scobie, author of the couple's biography Finding Freedom, claimed Archie's birthday falling on May 6 played a part in Meghan not attending the Westminster Abbey service.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said the decision for Prince Harry to attend without Meghan was an "ideal compromise".
Fitzwilliams added there had been much hope for a reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, but said the rift now appeared too severe, reports the Mail.
He said: "The Sussexes are unpredictable. Their endless attacks on the royal family have been extremely damaging.
"They have affected its popularity especially among the young. This has become something of a circus. They should find constructive roles in which to employ such talents as they have."
Fitzwilliams speculated Harry was unlikely to have a role in the ceremony on the day,.
Harry, who laid bare his troubled relationship with the royal family in his controversial Netflix documentary and autobiography Spare, will be alongside other family members including his estranged brother Prince William and wife Kate.
The Palace said in a statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
Archewell, Harry and Meghan’s charitable foundation, issued a near identical statement to Buckingham Palace confirming the duke will join guests at the coronation.
Meanwhile, sources told The Telegraph that Harry "would always regret it" if he didn't attend the Coronation and wanted to be there on the "biggest day" of his father's life.
Another friend told the publication Meghan considers her future to be in the US, with it also reported her appearance at the Coronation risked "overshadowing the event".
The report also adds that Harry and Meghan were understood to be "concerned" about their reception by the British public.
