Ricky Whittle hints at possible revival of 'American Gods' series

American Gods star Ricky Whittle reveals potential continuation of the series.

The popular fantasy drama series, American Gods, may not have reached its final chapter just yet. Despite being cancelled in 2021, star Ricky Whittle has revealed that there are ongoing discussions about bringing the show back to continue and complete its story. Based on Neil Gaiman's acclaimed 2001 novel of the same name, the series revolves around the conflict between the Gods of classic mythology and the new deities of the modern world, with Whittle's character, Shadow Moon, caught in the middle.

In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Whittle explained that he has been in consistent contact with Gaiman, the author of the novel, to explore the possibility of taking American Gods to other networks and streamers. Both Whittle and Gaiman share the desire to bring the final chapters of the story to the screen, particularly because the end of the book is said to contain an incredible twist that they believe should not be left untold.

Although plans for a fourth season were in the works back in 2019, the show concluded with a cliffhanger in its third season, leaving many fans hungry for more. With Gaiman's recent success in the television industry, thanks to shows like The Sandman and Good Omens, which have garnered critical acclaim and additional episodes, he may be in a stronger position to revive American Gods.

While it remains uncertain which platform might pick up the series, Gaiman's ongoing collaboration with Prime Video for the American Gods spin-off, Anansi Boys, potentially opens the door for a revival on that platform. Additionally, Gaiman's reputation and the continued interest in American Gods could make it an enticing prospect for streaming services like Netflix.

It has been over three years since American Gods was cancelled, and the streaming industry has evolved significantly during that time. However, with the determination of both Whittle and Gaiman to see the story reach its conclusion, there is hope for a revival. Despite facing challenges with showrunner exits and casting controversies during its original run, the legacy of American Gods and the passion of its key players may just be enough to bring the Old Gods back to life.

If you haven't had the chance to experience American Gods yet, you can currently stream it on Prime Video and Starz. Delve into a world where gods walk among us, pulling the strings and fighting for their existence. With an intriguing premise, complex characters, and the potential for a captivating conclusion, American Gods is a feast for fantasy lovers that may soon have even more to offer.
