A West Country-based café bar group has announced plans to take over the site of a former French chain restaurant in Altrincham which shut just last month.
The Bistrot Pierre restaurant on George Street, which first opened in 2016, closed at the end of December after staff said the business had been heavily impacted by the ongoing pandemic and a number of staffing issues.
The large two-floor unit will now be resided by restaurant group Loungers, which operates under the Lounges and Cosy Club brands, as part of a new Oppio Lounge set to open in April.

As part of a ‘varied and innovative’ menu, the all-day café bar will serve the likes of tapas, salads and burgers alongside a wide selection of vegan and gluten-free dishes. Particular attention will also be paid to families with a selection of games, books, and colouring activities all on offer.
The venue will be transformed into a 'retro-inspired retreat', with heavily-patterned wallpapers, tiling and stripped wooden floors paired with oversized vintage sofas, upholstered lounge chairs and eclectic artwork.
Founded in 2002, Loungers has quietly gone on to achieve big success with a number of similar venues across the country. Already owning 200 sites, the company is behind Navarro in the city centre, Expo Lounge in Didsbury, Benito in Chorlton, Unico in Wilmslow and Bevano in Urmston.
The company said Oppio Lounge, which will create around 25 new jobs, will be a ‘real home from home’ as it aims to become a place for people to relax and unwind. It will also have a community focus, helping support local organisations and businesses.
