Reds coach urges fast ALM start against Bulls

Coach Carl Veart is urging his Adelaide United players to make a fast start to take advantage of Macarthur's taxing travel schedule when the sides lock horns at Campbelltown Stadium.

The A-League Men clash was shifted to Monday night because of a late change to the Bulls' continental AFC Cup commitments.

The Bulls were due to host Myanmar's Shan United last Thursday, before facing Adelaide on Sunday.

But Australia's government refused to grant visas for Shan United players and staff, forcing the game to be shifted to Thailand.

The Bulls triumphed 4-0 on Thursday night after leaving some players in Australia but Veart said the NSW side's travel schedule could have some domestic impact.

"We know they're on the back of a trip into Asia so they're going to be a little bit all over the place," Veart said.

"They left players in Australia, they took half the team to Asia.

"So it's important that we start quite fast. They try to slow things down and so it's important that we try to play a very high-tempo game."

The Reds were fourth entering the round with three wins, one loss and one draw, with the Bulls (two wins, three losses) sixth.

But Veart was acutely aware of Adelaide's poor recent record against Macarthur in Campbelltown - a string of three consecutive losses.

That away record contrasts sharply with three successive home wins for the Reds against the Bulls.

Veart has altered Adelaide's travel plans for Monday night in a bid to stop the away rot.

"We're doing things a little bit different this time," he said.

"Playing Macarthur out at Campbelltown is a long way out from Sydney.

"The last few times we've stayed in Parramatta and it's a 45-odd minute travel journey out there.

"This time we're staying a five-minute drive from the stadium so hopefully that can ... make the players a little bit more settled going into the game."
