Red Hot Chili Peppers fans 'heartbroken' after band cancels Glasgow gig due to illness

Red Hot Chili Peppers fans have expressed their dismay after the band cancelled tonight's Glasgow gig due to illness.

The American rock band was set to play Bellahouston Park with thousands of fans preparing for the huge concert. However, they confirmed it has now been halted, but reassured ticketholders they are working to reschedule the gig.

Their statement on Twitter read: "Due to illness RHCP will not be able to perform in Glasgow tonight July 1. We are working on ways to reschedule this show. Please hold onto your tickets and wait for an update soon.

"RHCP love Scotland and are deeply disappointed not to be able to perform the show. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Fans have been left gutted by the news and shared their disappointment at the sudden cancellation.

Tom Cotterill, 33, a journalist in Portsmouth has been waiting a decade to see the Chili Peppers live and flew to Glasgow yesterday specifically for the gig.

He said: "This is a huge kick in the teeth. My friend, Dan found out about the cancellation minutes after his plane landed at Glasgow this morning then he called me.

"When I heard about it, my heart just sank. I’d been looking forward to this for months.

"It wouldn’t have been so bad if the gig was more local to us. But we have literally travelled hundreds of miles from the other side of the country to see them.

"Now we’re both at a loss of what to do and where to go in Glasgow. It’s just massively heartbreaking. I hope the band get better soon."

Meanwhile, hundreds of fans took to Twitter to share their disappointment, and best wishes to the people that are unwell.

One ticketholder said: "Was due at this so this is a gutter. £91 and a day of annual leave down the drain."

Another added: "Hope they are ok, am gutted. Day drinking and tears shortly."

A disappointed Twitter user said: "So very sorry about this - the majority of RHCP fans I know personally were heading for their Glasgow show. I know it will only have been cancelled if they really can't perform, they've done plenty of shows while feeling ill or with significant injuries."

One person said: "Gutted. Was so looking forward to it too. Get well soon to whoever is ill."

Meanwhile, another fan added: "Gutted at this news - I was really looking forward to this one. Hope everyone in the band is ok and it's nothing serious."
