Ranvir Singh battles tears as she opens up on being sexually assaulted in ITV Epstein documentary

Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh fought back tears as she opened up about being sexually assaulted in a live interview on the show.

Ranvir is the host of Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile, which will air on ITV on Tuesday night.

She spoke about the documentary on GMB, talking to her colleagues Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid about filming and what it was like speaking to some of Epstein's victims.

Recalling an interview with one of them Lisa Phillips, Ranvir told the hosts: "Often when we do this job people think we are just out to make people cry on telly, do you know what I mean, I'm being blunt about how people view journalists.

"It was just an instant thing - I felt a shocking sense of empathy with what she was describing."

And it was at that point that Ranvir, who waived her right to anonymity to talk about her ordeal, told Richard and Susanna that she confided in Lisa about her own experience of being sexually assaulted, explaining: "I was acutely aware we were on camera but it's a human to human experience when someone is telling you something so painful.

"So I did say to her 'something happened to me when I was 12 and I understand you shouldn't feel guilty about not...'"

Ranvir took a moment to compose herself in the GMB studio as she held back tears before telling Richard and Susanna: "Sorry, do you know what? I've only ever told two people in my life.

"In the last two days I've had to tell family members and so on."

Offering her support, Susanna interrupted: "You don't have to tell anyone."

Ranvir also admitted she was unsure at first whether to leave her painful admission in the documentary but agreed for it to stay in after a "tug of war" with her emotions.

Viewers were swift to offer their support to Ranvir, with one tweeting: "Always admired you Ranvir, you showed immense strength speaking about your experiences this morning. Brave and beautiful woman in so many ways, a wonderful person and journalist."

A second reacted: "Ranvir ..brave lady."
